A Review of Passive and Active Battery Balancing based on MATLAB/Simulink

چکیده
Battery systems are affected by many factors, a key one being the cells unbalancing. Without the balancing system, the individual cell voltages will differ over time, battery pack capacity will decrease quickly. That will result in the failure of the total battery system. Thus cell balancing acts an important role on the battery life preserving. Different cell balancing methodologies have been proposed for battery pack. This paper presents a review and comparisons between the different proposed balancing topologies for battery string based on MATLAB/Simulink ® simulation. The comparison has been carried out according to circuit design, balancing simulation, voltage/current stress, practical implementations, application, balancing speed, complexity, balancing system efficiency, size, cost ... etc. Copyright© 2011 Praise Worthy Prize S.r.l. Integration of distributed generations (DGs) in power grids is expected to play an essential role in the infrastructure and market of electrical power systems. Microgrids are small energy systems, capable of balancing captive supply and requesting resources to retain stable service within a specific boundary. Microgrids can operate in grid-connected or islanding modes. Effective islanding detec...
متن کاملCharge Equalization Unit for a NiCd Battery of Small Earth Observation Satellite EPS Simulation
In micro, mini and small satellites because of needs for higher bus voltage and small required battery capacities, batteries are nearly always used in series combinations of multiple cells. When a series string of cells is charged as a group, a single current is imposed on all the cells. However, if the voltages begin to differ, the result is a charge imbalance that can lead ultimately to batte...

Active techniques based on the switchedcapacitor converters (SCCs) are used in recent years widely for battery cell balancing applications, due to lack of bulky magnetic components. In addition, these converters are easily be integrated to reduce the volume. Despite of all these benefits, SCCs have some disadvantages such as number of active switches, currents spikes, low balancing speed, and h...
